Those in and around Fergus Falls are especially excited about growth projections prepared by the Minnesota State Demographers office: Otter Tail County is expected to increase its population by 40% within the next 25 years bringing the total population to 79,000 people, and making the county the most densely populated county in west central Minnesota, outside of the St. Cloud area.
The Fergus Falls Trade Area population is currently 83,370 and is projected to be 104,804 by the year 2035. By 2030 the population of retirees 65 and older is projected to double, making it the largest category of citizens in the population. However, a surge in population is projected for the 20-35 year old age group. Both of these demographics foretell a new generation of economic opportunity is quickly evolving in Fergus Falls.
